Its time to VOTE!!

In the more than 17 years since I began posting on this blog, I have rarely focused on politics. Most of the 320-plus essays have drawn on stories from my past, especially leadership lessons from my business career. As the blog’s subheader puts it: lessons of leadership and life. stories, insights and experiences

One rare exception was an essay I posted on January 7, 2021—the day after the insurrection at the Capitol. That essay, which you can find here (https://fylegacy.blogspot.com/2021/01/a-message-at-troubled-moment-in-our.html), spoke out against the insurrectionists and reminded readers across partisan divides that our country’s strength lies in the rule of law and the vibrancy of our democracy.

That same belief brings me to this essay: our democracy is healthier, stronger, and safer when the broadest possible representation of our populace is heard through the exercise of our right to vote. Driving around Atlanta last week, I passed a sign outside a local church. Its call to action, echoing Micah 6:8, struck me as encouraging and spot-on. My encouragement to every reader, regardless of state or party affiliation, is simple: if you have already voted early, thank you. If you plan to vote tomorrow, let your voice be heard. VOTE!

In 2024, I found myself complaining about voter turnout—and quickly grew tired of MY OWN complaints! To turn my intentions into action—a recurring theme on this blog—I signed up to serve as a local poll worker in DeKalb County, Georgia. After completing the required onboarding, training, and tests, I received my certificate. Tomorrow, I’m excited to put that preparation into practice as a poll worker!

This week let us celebrate this essential part of our country and our community. Let your voice be heard. VOTE!
